Our GCCCA Board is here to serve you, the
resident. One way Craig Dahlke and the GCCCA
Team did this is by building a Web Site that serves to
rollout our message more effectively to you,
and potential residents. Another is Darlene
Bartkowiak's untiring efforts updating the Directory.
She and the rest of the Board tried our best to ensure
accurate information, so don't hesitate to
contact Darlene (563-7188, dabart@aaahawk.com
) if you have changes. There are many other
surprises
for you in the making and coming soon, but more
importantly, please let us know what
you want.
www.gccca.com
Web Site: Your association is only one of a few
in the country to have its
own web site, thanks to Craig Dahlke! Our objective
is not only to provide our residents with timely
and accurate information, but also show it in a high-class
fashion that makes you proud to live here
and be a part of it! Your web site has 20 sections
(About GCCCA, Deed Restrictions, By-laws,
Building Guidelines, Mayor's Message, Schools, Subdivision
Map, Homes for Sale, Mosquitos,
etc.) available to anyone in the neighborhood, City,
and/or, the world! . . . just like other typical web
sites. However, another 20 sections (Directory,
Board Meetings, Your Opinion, Online Poll, Forum,
References, Featured Resident, Web Links, etc.) are
restricted, Confidential, and only available to
GCCCA dues paying members. If you are a dues paying
member and want access to the
restricted half of the database, send an email to arice007@yahoo.com
and include a "ID and
password" which are at least five characters
long. I encourage everyone to look at your new web
site. I know you will be proud of it!
Dearborn Country
Club Dinner: Mark your calendar for Saturday,
June 23 for a great time
which includes the opportunity to meet your
neighbors. Please see the particulars for this
exciting
occasion by visiting the Events
topic.
90% of Home
Additions are Compatible! Over 90% of the recent
home additions are
compatible and conform to all of the other one-story homes
in our subdivision. 90% of time, we've
had many unsung success stories! The most talked
about and everyone's favorite is Charlie Saad's
highly styled family room addition at 110 Golfcrest.
It's Compatible and Conforms with the
neighborhood, and most impressive, he started and
completed it within three weeks!
ZBA Challenges:
Periodically we have been faced with residents wanting
non-conforming
home additions. And, many of you are very upset
because of recent Zoning Board of Appeals
decisions allowing a few non-compatible homes in our area.
We acknowledge your frustration, but
keep in mind that our neighborhood is still a great place
to live! And, the situation IS getting better!
While the vision of the ZBA is changing thanks in part to
Tom Myler's efforts with the Dearborn
Federation of Civic Associations and the City of Dearborn,
we still need your support at the ZBA
meetings. While all of us would rather stay home and
watch Peter Jennings, it's important for you
to help us at the ZBA appeals in the audience. Also,
it's important for immediate neighbors who live
in the immediate area of an appeal to take an active role.
Compatibility
& Conformance: Even though it's frustrating
to see 10% of new home
additions looking out of place in our neighborhood, rest
assured that this is changing. City Hall
recognizes that 90% of our residents want Compatibility
and Conformity. Mayor Guido's team is
pursuing changes that will reduce the likelihood of
incompatible homes in the neighborhood. The
revised Dearborn Residential Design Standards include
"proposed structures must be compatible
with 51% of existing structures," not just one
example as before. See our web site under Zoning
Updates for more information. The Zoning Board of
Appeals is recognizing the importance of not
destroying one of the best residential jewels in the City.
Also, the ZBA is under new leadership who
has pledged to uphold all Compatibility laws and strive
maintain single-story homes in our
subdivision. Your GCCCA Board is going to great
lengths to convey and rollout the Compatibility
and Conformity message to residents who want to make
changes. We are accomplishing this by
providing the following: Building Guidelines, Welcoming
Committee, social functions, Entrance
Sign, and the Web Site.
Computers:
Many of us don't know where to begin to purchase a new
personal computer
(PC). It's easy to buy a computer, and maybe buying it for
a good price is a little difficult. However,
the hard part is "assembling it and getting
started." One option for you may be to contact
Eric
Stanley at The Potential Source on 734-844-8863 or
734-377-7110 for help. Eric offers the same
low price as Gateway, Dell, and other online and mail
order houses. He assembles it in your home,
insures that it works, and gives you a personal
guarantee. Also, Eric gives you a couple of hours
of instructions, which in most cases is all you need to
get the hang of it.
Trees:
Last year, one of our resident tree enthusiasts circulated
a plea to save a 200 year old
tree in our subdivision. It appeared 50% of you
agreed with him for many reasons, however, another
50% sided with the homeowner. While a few cities
require permits to cut down trees, I don't believe
we want this constraint in our neighborhood.
However, keep in mind that if you have to remove a
tree, please plant another one (or two). The City
makes this easy for us - you can choose from
seven different varieties, and they plant them in the
Spring in front of your home for a small charge
of $100 (even though the trees cost the City twice as
much). Call 943-2317 and order yours now!
Mosquitos:
One of your favorite neighborhood projects has been
mosquito spraying. Many of
you comment that this program enhances the quality of life
in the subdivision and helps us to enjoy
"almost mosquito free" summers. Please
participate again and encourage your neighbors to
sign-up as well this year!
Your Opinion:
Our Board members want to hear from you; don't hesitate to
contact any of
the Board members, Block Captains or Webmaster.
Please give us your comments. In the future,
the Online Poll will include voting online, phone
balloting, and paper balloting, so that we can know
what ALL residents want in the Golfcrest Country Club
Estates!
Neighborhood
Family: Please think of your neighbors as your
Neighborhood Family. We all
have our immediate family, our work family, our social
family, and now, think of your neighbors as
your Neighborhood Family. It's comforting to know
that there is someone next door you can count
on in time of need or crisis, or someone with whom you can
share a few laughs!
Thanks again
for your support.
